What really matters

By rights, tonight should be a celebration of the Charles B. Aycock varsity girls’ basketball team’s victory over Goldsboro.
It was a proud moment for the Lady Falcons.
But we know that they, like we, are not thinking about the win.
Their hearts and their prayers are somewhere else.
The CBA/Goldsboro boys’ game was suspended midway through the first quarter when Trever Reid went down hard on the court.
In an instant, the Cougars and the Golden Falcons were not rivals anymore.
As first responders surrounded the young man, everyone in the gymnasium was watching and hoping that he was going to be OK, many with tears in their eyes.
So we will share our photos from the girls’ game tomorrow.
But tonight, we join those who are lifting their eyes skyward as they think about Trever, his family, his coaches and his teammates.
Sometimes, what is most important is remembering what really matters.
