Two dead, Berkeley Mall locked down after shooting at Spence Avenue law office

Shoppers inside Berkeley Mall were told to shelter in place briefly this afternoon due to an “active shooter” in the area. One local resident, who was shopping with his young daughter in Belk, told the New Old North the lockdown began just after 4:30 p.m. and lasted roughly 10 minutes.

By the time the lockdown had been lifted, law enforcement and first-responders had swarmed the law offices of Riddle & Brantley on nearby Spence Avenue. The law office remains an active crime scene.

According to a press release from the Goldsboro Police Department, two men died from gunshot wounds inside the law firm. The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of family members.
