School Board: All grades will return under Plan A

Under authority granted to them by the “Reopen Our Schools Act,” members of the Wayne County Board of Education voted 4-3 to send all students, K-12, back to local classrooms. Board chairman Chris West and board members Len Henderson and Patricia Burden voted against the measure.

Families are, however, still allowed to keep their children in the state’s mandated all-virtual setting.

WCPS’ K-5 students returned under Plan A this morning, but sixth- through twelfth-graders remain in the state’s hybrid learning model.

That will change March 29, as the board voted to bring students back to campuses five days a week beginning that Monday.

  1. Jennifer Strickland has no idea how to act or show respect. Her disrespect while Ms. Burden was talking was evident. Unfortunately, the general public could not see it. Someone should have called her on it!!!

  2. I just feel bad for those families who have had to choose the virtual learning option for their kids. Without the extra planning time for teachers, those kids are going to get short-changed. Sad that a majority of the board chose to stiff those 5,000 students and families for their own political agenda. Wayne county can do better.

  3. Why are students going back to school when the school board still has closed meetings due to safety issues? If the kids can pack a classroom then I think the board should be able to pack their meetings. Three feet distance and facemasks should be good enough for them.
I know that this school year has been difficult but we will, once again, be upending students, teachers, and schools. Does the board realize that each decision creates a domino effect from bus scheduling to teacher re-assignment. There are kids that have had three different teachers, so far, this school year.

    1. No, the domino effect never entered their decision process. They are too ignorant to know how all are affected by this. It’s all political, and the 4-member majority are clueless. NCAE/Wcae endorsed Mr Sanders election, and now we see that it was a mistake to do so, he is a republican, after all. 🙁
Teachers will have to continue virtual classes while LOSING the Wednesdays to catch up on work. Many I know are leaving Wayne County, and many are leaving education altogether.
This board must be voted out… first they were clueless about the loss of $5 million, and now this unbelievable mismanagement since August.
