Wayne Country Day headmaster resigns amid allegations of misconduct

According to an email sent to Wayne Country Day parents obtained by the New Old North, Headmaster Todd Anderson has resigned amid “serious concerns” uncovered by “an outside law firm.”

Among the allegations are inappropriate sexual conduct with students, “financial impropriety,” engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a faculty member and “additional concerns,” including allowing “students under age 21” to consume alcohol at his home.

The letter also informed parents that Fran Shaw and David Flowers would serve as interim headmasters while a search is conducted for Anderson’s replacement.

The allegations listed in the correspondence to parents included the following statements:

• “Anderson identified certain high school students for special treatment and engaged in inappropriate physical contact with these students. There are also credible allegations that he made sexual advances toward students.”

• “The Board has learned that Anderson took substantial sums of money for his personal benefit without authorization from the Board. In addition, he mismanaged the school’s international account.”

• “Anderson hired his former high school student with whom he was engaged in a sexual relationship.”

• “Anderson used vulgar language towards faculty and students. He also served alcohol to students under age 21 in his home.”

Calls to WCDS were unanswered Tuesday, but the letter noted “how disturbing and disappointing this news is for everyone at Wayne Country Day School” and outlined a series of parent and student meetings that will be held to allow for discussion of the allegations and their impact on WCDS moving forward.
