PUBLIC NOTICE OF ELECTION ON THE ORDINANCE 

IMPLEMENTING FOUR-YEAR STAGGERED TERMS 

FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE MOUNT OLIVE 

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

NORTH CAROLINA WAYNE COUNTY

THE PUBLIC WILL TAKE NOTICE that an election will be conducted in the Town of Mount Olive, North Carolina, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 for the purpose of submitting to the voters the question of whether the Ordinance enacted by the Board of Commissioners on June 1 and 22, 2026, amending the Charter of the Town of Mount Olive, as set forth in Chapter 201, Section 3 of the Private Laws 1905 of North Carolina, as amended, to implement four­year staggered terms for the members of the Mayor and Board of Commissioners shall become effective. 

The Ordinance provides that at the regular municipal election to be held in 2027 the candidate for Mayor with the highest number of votes shall be elected to a two-year term. The three candidates for Commissioner who receive the highest number of votes shall be elected to four-year terms, while the two candidates for Commissioner who receive the next highest number of votes shall be elected to two-year terms. 

At the regular municipal election to be held in 2029, and every four years thereafter, the Mayor and two Commissioners shall be elected to serve four-year terms. At the regular municipal election to be held in 2031, and every four years thereafter three Commissioners shall be elected to four-year terms.

1.6 TIME OF COMPLETION AND LIQUIDATED DAMAGES

A. Successful bidder shall begin the Work on receipt of the Notice to Proceed and shall complete

the Work within the Contract Time. Work is subject to liquidated damages.

1.7 BIDDER’S QUALIFICATIONS

A. Bidders must be properly licensed under the laws governing their respective trades and be able to obtain insurance and bonds required for the Work. A Performance Bond, separate Labor

and Material Payment Bond, and Insurance in a form acceptable to Owner will be

required of the successful Bidder.
