Several sources — including law enforcement at the scene and staff working inside Wayne UNC Health Care Sunday evening — say the hospital was locked down after a person was shot inside the facility.
At 9:53 p.m., the county released a statement confirming their reports — adding that one individual was shot and is suffering from “non-life-threatening injuries.”
“The shooting was domestic in nature, and the lockdown was lifted at 9:10 p.m.” the release read.
Wayne County officials also confirmed that an “active shooter” scenario had been playing out at the hospital since 8:17 p.m., and a heavy law enforcement response, including Goldsboro Police, Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the State Highway Patrol, converged on the grounds.
The suspect fled the scene.
