In song, she’s keeping #WayneCountyStrong
Victoria Ruffin Atkins’ message was simple.
“Rather than being in a panic, look up,” she said.
But the Goldsboro High School choral director did not just take to Facebook Monday evening to remind her friends, students and neighbors to take a moment to breathe amid the chaos that has become a new normal for many Wayne County residents.

One of the area’s most prolific entertainers also spent a few minutes doing what she has said she was born to do — using her voice to spread joy to those who have spent the majority of the last week-plus in their homes as fears associated with COVID-19 rise.
For those of you who are not familiar with Mrs. Atkins, we featured her in the winter edition of our sister publication, Eastbound & Downtown.
