GHS loses double OT thriller to No. 3 Kinston
With arguably the best player in Wayne County on the bench after fouling out — and the team’s premier defender sidelined with an injury — the Goldsboro High School basketball team didn’t have enough to beat powerhouse Kinston in a double overtime thriller that saw emphatic slam dunks, a raucous crowd, and a buzzer-beater that sent the game to what was ultimately the final frame.
But the journey to what was only the Cougars’ second loss of the season made for some incredible theater.
Junior Xavion Atkinson continued his streak of explosive performances, but it was freshman big man TaKorrie Faison who shined early for GHS.
And senior guard Christian Bullock brought the crowd to its feet when he hit a three-pointer as the first overtime expired to, again, extend the game.
The Cougars will need to sleep off the sting of their 87-79 defeat this evening, as tomorrow, they host Wallace-Rose Hill in a conference clash.
