The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating an attempted involuntary commitment that turned deadly Monday morning in Dudley.
Three members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were injured when Jourdan Hamilton allegedly opened fire as the lawmen attempted to serve involuntary commitment papers at 2592 Arrington Bridge Road.
Sergeant Matthew Fishman is in critical condition, and Deputy Alexander Torres and Corporal Andrew Cox are in stable condition.
After a several-hour standoff, SWAT team members entered the residence and found Hamilton dead from, “an apparent fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
All three members of the WCSO are being treated at ECU Health Medical Center (Vidant).
