An investigation that began after an email was sent to Dillard Middle School May 24 “threatening to harm students and staff” has resulted in the arrest of a 12-year-old.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the juvenile was charged with two counts of making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property — and, subsequently, released “to his parent.”
News of the arrest comes two days after another Wayne County school, Brogden Middle, was placed on lockdown after officials got wind of a social media post that made direct threats against specific classrooms and staff members.
Wayne County Public Schools Executive Director for Community Engagement and Student & Family Support Ken Derksen said law enforcement have “not officially confirmed that a Brogden Middle student created the threatening social media post,” but reiterated that if a suspect is caught in connection with the threat and they are a WCPS student, they would face disciplinary action from the district.
Several local teachers have contacted the New Old North in recent days — saying the threats are particularly “disturbing” in the wake of a recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that left 21 people dead.
