Sheriff Pierce: FBI/SBI investigation involves ‘old cases’ handled by ‘prior employee’

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is being investigated by both the Federal and State Bureau of Investigation, but Sheriff Larry Pierce says the probe is related to “old cases” handled by a “prior employee.”

In a statement released to media this afternoon, Pierce said:

“Several months ago, we were made aware of a federal investigation involving old cases that were handled by a prior employee. We have fully cooperated with the investigation and will continue to cooperate with authorities as requested. At this time, we are unaware of the status of this investigation and can’t comment further until the investigation is completed.”

Calls to the FBI and SBI for comment have not been returned.
