After a several month back and forth, Bevan Foster was vindicated by state elections officials Friday afternoon.
During an appeal of the Wayne County Board of Elections July 7 decision that validated a protest of the election of the former Goldsboro City Councilman and mayoral candidate, the State Board of Elections overruled Wayne County elections officials.
Consequently, Foster was named the valid winner of the March Democratic Primary for the Wayne County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat and will run, uncontested, in November.
According to the protest filed by Linda Harper, Joy Brown and Zachary Lilly — it was later determined that Lilly was the only valid protestor, as Harper and Brown are registered Republicans and had no valid stake in the contest — Foster does not live at 610 Devereaux Street.
Foster claimed that he purchased the home with the intention of elevating the neighborhood by renovating the property, and said that while he did not sleep there because of conflicts with one of his roommates, it was his permanent residence.
In the end, the state board ruled with Foster.
