High school sports suspended amid COVID-19 fears
The N.C. High School Athletic Association announced this afternoon that it would suspend all sports through April 6, amid fears associated with the potential spread of COVID-19.
“As much as we would like the opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, and their communities, we know that ultimately any decision we make must err on the side of caution,” NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker said in a statement.
The suspension of spring sports begins at “11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 13,” but some Wayne County teams have already called off practices scheduled for this afternoon.
