Breaking: Williams resigns from GWTA board
At the tail end of a nine-minute speech — more on that later — District 1 Councilman Antonio Williams announced his resignation from the Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority board during this evening’s Goldsboro City Council meeting.
The position would have put Williams into contact with a city department head at the center of an active investigation of the representative by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for his alleged discrimination of her and his alleged creation of a hostile work environment.
“I regretfully announce this decision, due to consultation I received that it would best for my protection and for personal reasons which have become too great for me to be able to fulfill the requirements of my position on the GWTA board,” Williams said.
The councilman’s resignation from the GWTA board is effective today. No details regarding who might replace Williams are available at this time.
