Goldsboro’s District 5 has a new representative.
Wayne Community College Associate Vice President Charles Gaylor IV was appointed to fill the seat, which was vacated by Mayor David Ham, Monday during the City Council’s final meeting of the month.
Of the six council members, four voted for Gaylor. Councilman Taj Polack and Councilwoman Brandi Matthews voted for Phyllis Merritt-James.
Gaylor will be sworn in next month.

Why hasn’t the city approved the civil war trail sign on Center street? We have honored all other veterans downtown but not this black troop.
What is the reason the NC tourist board can’t honor this group downtown?
The marker was discussed at the last meeting and the option of placing it on Center was met with positive comments from the council. I’m not sure what you’re referring to, because no one refused. I believe the city is working with the group that requested the marker to have it placed.
