The day after members of the Wayne County Board of Education went into a four-hour executive session to discuss “personnel,” the district confirmed that WCPS finance officer Michael Hayes has resigned.
The confirmation came after the New Old North received multiple tips this morning that there were questions about the reason for the deficit and that some key central office staff were in jeopardy because of it.
District communications director and public information officer Ken Derksen said no other school officials have resigned, including Superintendent Michael Dunsmore.
Derksen declined to provide details on Hayes’ resignation, citing privacy laws.
The finance officer’s resignation comes on the heels of an announcement that the district is facing a $5 million budget shortfall for the coming year.
Wednesday’s meeting was supposed to be dedicated to the budget, but that discussion never happened, as board members turned their focus to graduation. No decision on commencement ceremonies was made.
Wow, another AA gone! Does anyone see a trend within WCPS? Dunsmore needs to go!
So isn’t it interesting that the black Finance Officer is the guy who “resigns.” If you believe that, I feel sorry for you. Meanwhile, his bosses, Lewis and Dunsmore still have their jobs. Something STINKS here and I hope New Old North keeps digging, because we all know the local “paper” and the “news site” that just publishes press releases aren’t going to do anything of substance. WELCOME BACK, Renee Carey! You’ve got them shaking in their boots.
New Old North please publish salaries of WCPS administrators including principals. I am willing to bet there are major discrepancies. Michael Dunsmore is paying people way more than they should make (according to the state salary scale). This is public information and the tax payers of Wayne County deserve to know.
How much is Dunsmore’s wife making compared to other secretaries in the district? New Old North please let us know.
Chris West and Michael Dunsmore approved for Noah West to be in charge of the grounds crew for WCPS. Why weren’t other more qualified veteran employees approved for this position? What is his salary compared to others?
Lol. He rode a mower and carried a weed eater. Not as prestigious of a job as you may be thinking.
So much revealed. Please keep bringing us the truth about our school system. Our tax dollars are on the line & these children belong to all of us.
