Wayne County Public Schools officials are attempting to ensure no local child goes hungry, as the district remains closed amid increasing COVID-19 concerns throughout the nation.
WCPS has been granted “federal authority to provide additional feeding supports to help those students who are unsure where their next meal will be coming from,” a news release from the district reads.
Curb-side meals — a lunch for that day and breakfast for the following day — will be available Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Friday meal will include extra food to get students through the weekend. Locations where meals will be distributed include:
- Charles B. Aycock High
- Carver Elementary
- Carver Heights Elementary
- Eastern Wayne High
- Grantham Middle
- Meadow Lane Elementary
- Rosewood Elementary
- Spring Creek Middle
- Tommy’s Road Elementary
- Wayne Academy
The curb-side service will continue next Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the same times and locations.
Parents who are unable to travel to a pick-up site, but who are in need of meal assistance for their child, should contact 919-705-6139.
