The dunk-fest that began during Wayne Country Day’s demolition of Spring Creek in the first round of the FCA Winter Classic at the University of Mount Olive continued Thursday evening as the Goldsboro High School basketball team overcame a slow start against Wayne Christian to claim an 89-66 victory.
Freshman TaKorrie Faison threw it down twice.
But it was junior Xavion Atkinson who helped the Cougars break away from WCS in the second half — and brought the crowd to its feet time and time again.
With the win, the Cougars advance to the tournament semifinal and will play the winner of Coastal Christian/Community Christian tomorrow evening.
