Wayne Country Day opened the FCA Winter Classic at the University of Mount Olive with a decisive 92-50 victory over Spring Creek.
By midway through the first quarter, the outcome seemed inevitable, but the Chargers saved the fireworks for the second half.
Like when a turnover led to a Jaden Cooper slam.
Or when, not to be outdone by his teammate, Linwood Grandy started rocking the rim.
Cooper responded midway through the fourth quarter with the play of the game, thanks to an assist from both Mike Best and the backboard.
The Chargers advance to the tournament semifinals and will play the winner of the Southern Wayne/Parrott Academy game that is unfolding now.
We’ll be back at UMO this evening for Goldsboro High School’s matchup with Wayne Christian.
