For much of the first three quarters of play, the Charles B. Aycock varsity men’s basketball team dictated the tempo, forcing rival Goldsboro High School to turn the ball over and take contested shots.
The Golden Falcons’ slow pace seemed to frustrate the high-octane Cougars, a team that put up 95 points in its season opener last week in a losing effort against Southern Wayne.
But GHS senior guard Christian Bullock had no intention of seeing his team start its season 0-2. And in the fourth quarter, the young man took over.
Bullock hit a pair of three-pointers in the final frame and scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Cougars to a 50-37 victory.
But thanks to a gritty performance by its women’s team, the night was not a total loss for CBA. The Lady Falcons topped GHS 45-43 and have now won three straight games.
