Councilman outlines election “consequences”

Goldsboro City Councilman Gene Aycock is purportedly reaching out directly to voters, outlining what he says the consequences could be if they make the wrong choices in the next city election.

In a letter bearing what appears to be his signature mailed this week to his constituents, the District 6 council member took aim at mayoral candidate Bevan Foster, who is running against incumbent Chuck Allen this fall.

Aycock characterizes Foster as a “three time convicted felon for selling drugs, a self-proclaimed atheist” and as someone who “will not recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our nation’s flag.”

The letter also suggests that should Foster defeat Allen, it would “not sit well with our military and veterans.”

But Aycock did not stop with the mayoral race.

He also added that two council members, whom he does not name, have “pushed their agendas with little regard for the city as a whole” and are, with their “backers,” running opponents against incumbent council members to shift the power on the city’s governing body.

“Should four of the opposing candidates be elected I feel that it would be a disaster for our city,” Aycock states in the letter. “You would have a council with no knowledge of city government and no idea how to interact with maybe our greatest asset, Seymour Johnson (Air Force Base).”

Attempts to reach Foster and Aycock were not immediately returned.
